  • Yardstick, a ‘boutique dog hotel,' opening soon in Berry Hill

By: Meg Wrather (Nov. 10, 2022)

Yardstick plans to open in December in Berry Hill, according to a news release.

The facility will offer boarding, small-group daycare and grooming services, including brushing, baths, nail care and more.

The concept aims to provide dogs with an elevated boarding environment that is smaller and calmer than other alternatives.

Dave Atkins is the co-founder and CEO of Yardstick. According to his Linkedln, Atkins is located in Chicago and is also operating partner at Tamroc Partners, a company that invests in pet-related companies.

"We've designed Yardstick to deliver premium dog hospitality in any market, but when we double-clicked on Nashville, it became clear that Nashville uniquely checked all the boxes across multiple dimensions," Atkins said in a statement to the Business Journal. "From the macro standpoint, there are few, million-plus person markets with this level of job and population growth. From the pet care standpoint, it quickly became clear that Nashville is a dog obsessed city and that quality boarding/daycare options are in very short supply . ... And this is one of the few non-coastal cities in the U.S. that exports culture and trends, so we knew it would be the ideal place to launch our brand."

Yardstick will be located at 2605 Grissom Dr., a 0.54-acre property owned by A.P. Family LP, according to Davidson County records.

The release did not disclose how much Yardstick is investing in its new space. Permits filed with Metro total close to $350,000 in electrical, plumbing and HVAC renovation costs.

Nashville-based companies Mesa, Bark & Burl Woodwards, Fortify Signage and DWC Construction were involved in the project, as well as New York-based Bolt Design Group.

  • “First look: Nashville pups now have premiere boutique hotel of their own”
By: Sherah Ndjongo (Nov. 13, 2022)

Finding a pet sitter or a boarding facility for dogs can often be a process.

The people behind Yardstick, an upcoming boutique dog hotel in Nashville, want to change that once the business opens on Dec. 15. They hope the hotel will become a game changer in the world of dog hospitality by introducing luxury and stress-free boarding for all the pups of Music City.

Yardstick, at 2605 Grissom Dr. in Berry Hill, offers three service options: nighttime for boarding, daytime for small group daycare and bath time services.

Daytime playrooms are divided into three sections, designated by dog size. Specialty canine padded flooring that is easy on the dogs' paws and joints has been installed, with easy access to outdoor yards. Bathing options are extended to daytime and nighttime guests and include bath and brush treatments, dental chews, nail and ear care.

Local veterinary partnerships for care in case of emergencies have also been established.

The nighttime service at Yardstick, referred to by Atkins as its bread and butter, is amplified with specially-built suites with air-quality controls in the spaces.
